Hi — I had the Lasik surgery about 2 years ago — My eyes were really bad and was almost refused to have it done — My astigmatism was really bad — I had to have the most painfull proceedure done and the one that takes the longest recovery — Instead of cutting around the lense and flipping it over and trimming it down/slitting it they had to trim down my whole eye from top down — The recovery took 3 months vs. 1 hour — I couldn’t see to walk or do anything for a week and the pain was really bad (but they screwed up on my meds and sent me home with no numbing pain drops for my eyes for 2 days) — For the 1st few weeks I just knew I had made the biggest mistake of my life — That had always been one of my biggest fears, loosing my sight, because my eyes had been so bad my whole life and I had worn glasses since 7 yrs old — But after the 3 months it was incredible — The surgery I had done was the most painful and the longest recovery but it’s the best on the eyes — And prefered if the person will do it — My eye sight is great now, better than most who have the surgery because of the different proceedure — No glasses at all and I love it (LOVE IT!!) It was worth it all — There are no dashes or spectras because of slashes in the eyes — I can rub my eyes and not fear the lense turning up because of the surgery — It’s great — I suggest that you talk in detail to an Eye Dr. That you can trust, go get the workup done on the surgery and see what the Eye surgens have to say (you still can walk out up to the point you agree to go back and have the surgery) even after all the tests they will let you know your chances and help you make an informed decision and let you decide if you still want it before they take you back that day to do it — As far as it being worth it, YES, it’s worth it — My mom’s had it done too — My experience was worse than hers but my vision is 100 X’s better than hers too and again, it’s soooooooo worth it — Hope this helps and please feel free to contact me if you have any more questions, I’ll be happy to help –

First of all … Don’t believe those ads that say Lasik $599 each eye. That doesn’t include follow up visits and sometimes not even the initial consultation. You get what you pay for. Wow, I don’t know where you guys are getting your quotes at or where you live, but…

I just had mine done January 2, 2007, in Omaha, Nebraska. The cost was $4200 for Custom LASIK, no blades. Standard no blade LASIK was $3600. I received a 10% discount on the Custom, so my net cost was about $3800.

I’d priced out 3 other places in Omaha prior to booking where I went. Those prices were $4000 (Custom, no blade), $3200 (no Custom blade for flap removal), and $3000 (no Custom, blade for flap removal).

If you are planning on doing it, I would definitely check to see if any health plans at your employer offer discounts or anything. Also, if you have a flex benefits program, set that money aside in that account so you can pay with tax-free dollars.

Hope that helps. It ain’t cheap, but it’s worth it. And I would stay away from anyone that says $250 per eye. You don’t want to end up looking like a pirate.

I know of an individual that had Lasik in the early 1990s, and as far as I know, the aftereffects have been nil. I didn’t have mine that long ago, but I can tell you my near vision is worse, but only with very small text. Unfortunately, even with Lasik, age is going to work on our eyes. As for finding a doctor – I asked friends. The doctor I went to was one of the first in the area to do the procedure. Doing the most doesn’t make a doctor the best, but I would think they have most of the kinks worked out. Yow! BTW: The one thing I missed in all my discussions was the fact that the flap that was sliced on my eye would never heal. That sounds pretty sick, but when I asked for more info, I was told it took a lot, a WHOLE lot, to rip the flap.

Yeah, if you just had it there will be sensitivities. When I had mine, glare was really a problem for a month or two. As far as dryness, I have a remedy that works for me. I yawn. It makes my eyes water. It is easier and safer than eye drops. That sensitivity should also go away in a few weeks. One eye being clearer might be good in that when you get older one eye might be better at seeing up close while the other is better at seeing in the distance. I hope that helped.

Haai…Lasik and Phaco are two entirely diffrent surgeries. Lasik is done to correct refractory errors like Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism. Phaco is done to remove cataracts. Cataract is a opacification of the natural lens inside the eye. Lasik is done externally on the cornea.

So you cannot alternate lasik and Phaco.

lasers are machine corrected and more safe less than .0001 in 10 billion.
My wife had blade surgery and they cut them to long she has unrepairable split vision ( radiokeratonomy)

You are absolutely right about doing polarized. There are a few different color options you can choose from for some of these different activites.

1. Grey or Dark Grey: good for light sensitivity. It gives you the truest color.

2. Brown: I like this better because it gives better contrast. It darkens as well as sharpens.

3. Yellow: good for shooting. Great contrast.

4. High Contrast Amber: again, great contrast. Golfers really like this one.

I really don’t know anywhere where your dad can get dental work pro bono but you can get it very cheap if there is a dental college or school in your area. Students in their final year work on those who need it and have limited means to pay. It provides the students with experience and helps the patient get care they otherwise could not attain. I am not familiar with Baytown but if you are close to a major city such as Houstin, Austin, etc., there should be a dental school in the area. Please ask your dentist as he would know.
