Your Questions About Best Lasik Procedure

William asks…
LASIK eye surgery?
I am considering laser eye surgery in april..i am 23 years old and was looking for people’s stories, suggestions, tips, etc. I have booked 3 consultations with 3 different offices to see which one is best. Is it possible to get a bladeless procedure done?

admin answers:
I had this done several years ago. Might have been 10 or so, so I’m not up on the latest info.
In a nutshell, I recall reading that if your pupils are large, you are not a candidate. If your eyes tend to be dry, it’s a bad idea. So be sure to ask for a dry eye test. Blindness is not something you need to worry about. I and one other person I talked to both noticed a decrease in our close vision. Not bad enough that I need reading glasses yet, but noticeable.
I highly recommend doing as much research as possible ahead of time. The doctor I went to had a web page with a link to questions you should ask your doctor. Unfortunately I no longer have it, but perhaps you could search for that phrase and come up with something.
One other thing – you get what you pay for. So just keep that in mind.

Sandy asks…
lasik with the use of a blade or lasik without the use of one? what do you recommend? any prior experiences??
I cant see from far away( near or far sided??? idk) but my vision has not gotton worse for years but at this point I cant read anything with big bolded letters a ft. away from me so I really want and need this procedure done but I dont know which dr is best? I want to do it right now because from what I understand if one vision is stable by that I mean has not gotten worse in years then its a good idea to get it done now. Im 29 and I know that when I become a middle aged woman its invevitable that my vision will change. so that why Im looking at this now so that I can enjoy 10 yrs without glasses or contacts. Well, the two Im looking at are very experienced but one offers the surgery without the use of a blade while the other uses a blade to work with the cornea. I’d like the bladless surgery just because it sounds safe but really I’d subject myself to which ever that will let me live with out the use of contacts or glasses. I’d aprreciate any recommendations or experiences with this.

admin answers:
The blades are a bit less perfect. About 1 in a million are bad
lasers are machine corrected and more safe less than .0001 in 10 billion.
My wife had blade surgery and they cut them to long she has unrepairable split vision ( radiokeratonomy)
i had the nano laser thing i can see the hairs on a gnats legs without glasses now.
Check out thois site it explains it all

Which Sunglasses brand is my best bet considering the following:?
I just had LASIK done a week ago and am looking for a quality pair of sunglasses. I am a little more light sensitive since the procedure. I am thinking polarization is a must. Here are the activities that I do the most of outdoors:
1) Commute a 1/2 hour each way to work 5x a week
2) Hunt (duck, goose, pheasant, and deer)
3) Training my Labrador Retriever for hunting
4) Fishing (both ice and water)
5) Assorted other activities with family and recreation leagues
Thanks for your help and please let me know if you have a recommended lens type with said brand.

admin answers:
You are absolutely right about doing polarized. There are a few different color options you can choose from for some of these different activites.
1. Grey or Dark Grey: good for light sensitivity. It gives you the truest color.
2. Brown: I like this better because it gives better contrast. It darkens as well as sharpens.
3. Yellow: good for shooting. Great contrast.
4. High Contrast Amber: again, great contrast. Golfers really like this one.
5. Copper: I have this to sell, but haven’t sold any. No real info here, sorry.
I’d look for an HEV polarized, it stands for High Energy Light. It allows your eyes to process the most amount of light, it filters out more UV, and more of the visible light, giving your eyes the very best protection.

Daniel asks…
Am i suitable for eye surgery?
I am 21 years old with no previous health problems except that my formerly excellent vision began to fade at the age of 12. I have had several new prescriptions over the years at it looks as though my vision may have finally settled. The Contact Lens Prescription for each of my eyes is -3.50. I haven’t really had any problems wearing contact lenses other than sometimes i don’t take them out for a few days and my eyes get sore. The thing is I’m interested in joining the New Zealand police and this is what they say about glasses.. “Applicants must have good eyesight, defined as a minimum visual standard of 6/12 unaided in each eye, correctable to 6/6 with contact lenses or eyeglasses. There are no exceptions.” what does 6/12 and 6/6 actually mean? If i do have surgery which one is better? The price of surgery isn’t the issue. I want to have the best and safest procedure possible. So should i go for Lasek, Lasik or PRK. Also if you can give me any additional info relevant to this subject would be great cheers.

admin answers:
Eye sight is such that 6/6 is perfect eyesight.if the denominator gets bigger then the sight gets poorer.Contact lenses should always be taken off at night do not play in this issue. As for me I stopped wearing contacts cauz I dun wanna take risks in my eyesight at all.I just wear frameless. As for the different types of surgery u should google them to get more accurate info.Especially read people what people have written about them in forumns to get personal experiences.

I need help getting a dentist to help fix my dad’s teeth pro bono, please?
My dad lives in South Africa and cannot afford to go to the dentist and he has been complaining about his teeth for a few years and now it is at the point where they are wearing away to nothing. I am doing my best to help him sort out whatever he needs to be done for example I will be sending for him within the year and when he is here I will take him to have the Lasik surgery, and was also going to take him to have his teeth fixed and after researching all dentist and the procedures it is too costly for me and it breaks my heart that I can’t do for him what he really needs for his everyday life, whereas he has always done for things for me all my life without teeling me he can’t afford it or any other excuse, he is the best dad, he is my just the best I would not trade him for a million dollars, he is literally the best dad in the world. SO I would really appreciate it if there is anyone out there that can or is willing kto help us please. By the way I live in Baytown, Texas.

admin answers:
I really don’t know anywhere where your dad can get dental work pro bono but you can get it very cheap if there is a dental college or school in your area. Students in their final year work on those who need it and have limited means to pay. It provides the students with experience and helps the patient get care they otherwise could not attain. Don’t worry! It is all safe and the students are supervised by totally trained dentists. I am not familiar with Baytown but if you are close to a major city such as Houstin, Austin, etc., there should be a dental school in the area. Please ask your dentist as he would know. He might also know where your dad could get the work done if there is no dental school in your area.
