Your Questions About Lasik Surgery

Paul asks…
How come the doctors who perform lasik surgery still wear glasses?
Someone said to me, “if lasik surgery is so effective, then how come the doctors doing it still wear glasses? Why don’t they get it done too?” So now I am wondering the same thing.

admin answers:
Do some reading up on the possible complications associated with the surgery, and you can pretty much figure it out. Although it’s not a high percentage, some folks experience halos and double vision afterwards. It also increases the likelyhood you will need bifocals later on. Opthamologists make their living using their eyes, and they aren’t likely to take any chances with messing them up. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not a good option for other folks, but it could end their careers- so they stick with glasses. It’s not much different than a singer with a deviated septum electing not to have the nose job because it will change how their voice sounds. For you or I, that’s not a big deal. But when you make your living as an opera star- well, that’s a different story. You aren’t going to do anything you don’t absolutely have to do, because it could mean an end to your career. Opthamologists take pretty much the same view of lasik surgery.

Sandy asks…
How many times can you have Lasik surgery on your eyes?
I originally had the procedure performed in 1999, and a re correction about 2 years later on my left eye. Now my vision has reverted back to being almost as bad as it was before the surgery, and I wear glasses for nearsighted. Can I have the Lasik again?

admin answers:
YES-they definitely can do it again to correct your vision if it changes or worsens throughout the years. My Lasik Dr. Even had something in the agreement to correct anything for free if something is necessary for the first two years.
You might think about looking into a new Dr. As well.

George asks…
How long after the Lasik surgery cna you wear contacts?
I had the Lasik surgery a few months ago and yeah, my vision is fine and I don’t need to wear them for vision anymore but I want to wear color contacts once in a while. How long after the procedure can I wear them? I’ve heard from my doctor that if I wore contacts before the procedure I should be able to wear them again afterwards. My next appointment with him is in another 6 months so I’d like to know when I can wear them again from maybe people who’ve had experience with this.

admin answers:
Well, being that your cornea might be a different shape after lasik, I would call the doctor and tell him you want to wear non-corrective, (prescription…even without a correction these colored lenses are prescriptive!) lenses for color. They might need to re fit you for sizes and see what ones are best for you and their availability. Do not go by what people in here tell you, their answer might not be what is right for you!

Lisa asks…
what are ALL the risk of having the Lasik Surgery?
Im planning to have lasik surgery next month. can anyone state all the risks after surgery or after several years have passed? by the way, im planning to get it done in Lasik Vision Institute in Houston.

admin answers:
Normally, LASIK is safe, but you may experience mild blurry vision within the first week. After that, you should see more clearly, but some complication do occur. Its best to consult an opthamalogist or just wiki it for full details. Sorry I couldnt give more.

Mary asks…
Can I get Lasik surgery if I have a Toric contacts prescription?
If so, is the cost more for lasik surgery if you have toric prescription?

admin answers:
LASIK can be done even if you wear toric lenses. The price will not be any higher. Prices range from $1000 per eye for a pretty basic procedure (Like the one I had 11 years ago and still love) to $2000 for state of the art. You may need to be out of your contacts a little longer before your procedure. Toric lenses are thicker and distort the cornea more than others.
